Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005; specimens photographed at St. KVG 11 by Serge Andréfouët on 16 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken at Tungelo Island, off southeastern New Hanover, at 3–46 m depth, St. KR 104, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Eastern Indonesia east to Palau and Solomon Islands, north to Taiwan and Yaeyama Islands, south to northern Australia. Usually in pairs, in coastal reefs, often near steep slopes, 3–30 m depth. Marine.
