Thunnus alalunga (Bonnaterre 1788) —Albacore

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland as Neothunnus macropterus by Nakamura (1954: chart 4); reported from St. George Channel, New Ireland, and Feni and Green islands, by Munro (1958: 263). Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2, 3, 5.—General distribution: Circumglobal in tropical and warm temperate seas, in the western Pacific south to New Zealand. Oceanic, pelagic, 0–600 m depth. Marine.
