Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Matanalaua River, New Hanover by Munro (1958: 285)
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1.—General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East and South Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and Mascarenes (Mauritius, Rodrigues) east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland (Australia). Solitary on sand or mud bottoms, entering estuaries, 1–25 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
