Asterorhombus intermedius (Bleeker 1865) —Intermediate flounder

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Kulineua River, New Hanover by Munro (1958: 283); record confirmed by Hensley (2005: 455). NTUM 11455 (1 specimen, 38.9 mm SL, St. KZ20, southwest of Edmago Island, Kavieng District, 02°37.053’S 150°44.214’E, 5–6 m depth, 25 June 2014), and NTUM 11457 (1 specimen, 21.0 mm SL, St. KR24, south of Nago Island, Kavieng District, 02°36.325’S 150°46.182’E, 4–15 m depth, sand bottom, 5 June 2014).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Seychelles and Maldives east to Tonga, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found on sand bottoms, 1–96 m depth. Marine.
