Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Kavieng, New Ireland by Duncker & Mohr (1929: 80), based on ZMH 14961. NTUM 11454 (1 specimen, St. KD83, 27 June 2014) .
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa, Madagascar Mascarenes east to Hawaiian, Marquesas and Society islands, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to Lord Howe and Norfolk islands. Found on sand bottoms near coral reefs, 1–100 m depth. Marine.
