Canthigaster papua (Bleeker 1848) —Papuan toby
Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 8 Sept. 2010 and at 7 m depth by Dean Tully on 16 Sept. 2012; a video of a specimen taken at Kawauiliaka Island, off northeastern New Hanover, at 3–12 m depth, St. KR 132, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Andaman Islands and Indonesia east to Palau and Solomon Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary or in pairs, in coral reefs, 1– 35 m depth. Marine.
