Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Hanover by Günther (1910: 474). A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District at 6 m depth by Dean Tully on 26 June 2013; a video of a specimen taken in Steffen Channel, Kavieng District, St. KR 34, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: East and South Africa east to Samoa, north to southern Japan. Found on shallow coastal sand flats and in estuaries, 1–22 m depth. Transitional water, marine.
