Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland as Tetrodon immaculatus var. manillensis by Peters (1877: 853). A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District by Dietmar Amon on 15 June 2008, another at 4 m depth by Dean Tully on 26 June 2013 .
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Central Indonesia east to Marshall Islands and Samoa, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in mangrove habitats, seagrass and on sand/silt bottoms, 0–22 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
