Other Specimens. One additional specimen from Costa Rica:
Costa Rica: Guanacaste: ACG, Pailas II, 10.7631, –85.3344, 820 m, 18 Dec. 2014, Malaise trap PL12-3, D. Janzen, W. Hallwachs (BIOUG44067-E06) (LACM) .
Diagnosis. The barcode of this species differs from that of the next most similar species, M. colombizona, by 1.68% minimum p-distance (Fig. 1, Table 1). The second costal sectors of M. oklizona are smaller than those of M. colombizona (Table 3).
In the landmarking analysis, the wing of the Costa Rican specimen is highly divergent from that of the holotype, in spite of their barcodes being similar (0.6% distance). This discrepancy is almost certainly due to the damaged wing, especially near the apex, in the specimen available from Oklahoma, USA. The damage distorts the position of many other landmarks that depend on the apical landmarks for their location (Brown and Wong 2021). The wing of M. oklizona broadly overlaps with that of M. colombizona (Fig. 31).
Recognition of M. oklizona is speculative, based on meager data. We await data from many further specimens to more fully understand the proper treatment of the two specimens we have recorded here.
DNA Barcodes. This species is in BOLD as BOLD:AAG3281.
Distribution. Oklahoma, USA, and Costa Rica. This is the only species of the M. sulphurizona complex that has a range that includes both North and Central America.
Etymology. Named for the type locality.
