Lutzomyia cortelezzii: Theodor 1965: 182; Young & Duncan 1994: 130.
Literature record in Uruguay. Cordero (1930). "Quinta del Camino Millán cercana a Barrio Prado"; Barrio Prado, Montevideo.
Remarks. This species along with Ev. sallesi (Galvão & Coutinho) and Ev. corumbaensis (Galati et al.) conform the cortelezzii complex (Galati et al.). For species identification it should be consulted Galati et al. (1989). Young & Duncan (1994) questioned the presence of this species for Uruguay, but Spinelli et al. (1999) confirmed the identification of male and female Ev. cortelezzii individuals originally collected in the country by E. H. Cordero. No individuals were recorded for the country since 1930. This species has been incriminated as vector of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Argentina due to its high abundance in sporadic outbreaks of the disease (Quintana et al. 2013). This species is also distributed in Peru, Brazil and Argentina (Young & Duncan 1994).
