Western Atlantic— USA (Florida), Gulf of Mexico, Cuba, Suriname, Brazil (Maranhão, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo) (Coelho & Ramos-Porto 1980, 1987; Rieger 1998; Melo 1999; Almeida et al. 2007b; Coelho et al. 2007; Felder et al. 2009; Fransozo et al. 2011; Meireles et al. 2012).

Remarks. Despite the wide distribution, including some areas in the north of Brazil, Paguristes erythrops has been documented from Pernambuco to São Paulo (see stations in Forest & Saint Laurent 1968). This low number of northern individuals is intriguing and, in addition, one of us (FLM) has noted differences in the color pattern between individuals from the northern and southern hemispheres, which has prompted an investigation on comparative taxonomic analysis. Sequences accession numbers (GenBank): CCDB 3018—16S (MF490161) (Mantelatto et al. 2018), COI (MT785555).
