TYPE LOCALITY: Cuba, Pinar del Rio Prov., Archipiélago de los Canarreos, Cayo Juan Garcia .

DISTRIBUTION: Known only from the type locality.

COMMENT: Placed in subgenus Mesocapromys by Varona, 1974, and in genus Mesocapromys, subgenus Paracapromys by Kratochvil et al., 1978, Acta Sci. Nat. Sci. Bohemoslov-Brno, 12(1): 15. However, retained in Capromys by Hall, 1981:865, and Corbet and Hill, 1980:191. CAW, GSM, and GCC include Mesocapromys in Capromys .
