TYPE LOCALITY: Nicaragua, Chinadega, El Realejo .
DISTRIBUTION: Chiapas and Yucatan Peninsula (S. Mexico) to S. Bolivia, N. Argentina, and S.W. Brazil. Introduced into Cuba and the Cayman Isis.
COMMENT: Includes variegata; see Goldman, 1913, Smithson. Misc. Coll., 60(22): ll; but see Handley, 1976, Brigham Young Univ. Sci. Bull. Biol. Ser., 20(5):56, who listed variegata as a distinct species.
