DISTRIBUTION: S.E. Kazakhstan, on south side of Lake Zaisan (U.S. S.R).

COMMENT: Corbet, 1978:157, and Gromov and Baranova, 1981: 120, placed this species as a synonym of platyurus without comment; it was regarded as a distinct species by Bobrinskii et al., 1965 [Key to the Mammals of the U.S. S. R], Moscow, and Vorontsov, ed., 1969, [The Mammals: Evolution, karyology, taxonomy, fauna], Novosibirsk.
