Type material: Unknown, possibly lost.
Type locality: France: probably Montpellier (Dugès 1834) .
Geographical distribution: Southwestern Palaearctic in Netherlands and England, and around the Mediterranean for Marocco, Italy, Spain, France, and Syria, (Dugès 1834; GBIF 2022; Gerecke 1991; Di Sabatino et al. 2010).
Distribution in Portugal: South: Alentejo, in Ribeira de Odivelas (Lundblad 1956).
Ecological notes: Freshwater, at standing and temporary waters; present in plants, such as Batrachium spp., Myriophyllum spp., Nymphea spp. (Lundblad 1956); Larvae tend to attach to the abdomen of hydrophilid beetles, such as Laccobius moraguesi Régimbart, 1898, Hemisphaera guignoti Schäfer, 1975 and Hydrochus grandicollis Kiesenwetter, 1870 (Di Sabatino et al. 2010), as well as parasitic on odonates insects (Dugès 1834).
