Remarks. This species inhabits slow moving lowland streams inside the forest (between 0 and 450m. a.s.l.), from Honduras to Ecuador, sharing its habitat with H. m. mitratum in some localities of the Central Cordillera in Colombia. New localities are recorded at Chocó and Antioquia departments (Fig. 1).
