Taraxacum mattmarkense van Soest (1959: 86)

Type:— L, no. det. 12789, holotype (herb. van Soest 31090) !

Doll (1978: 640):—Listed from Bulgaria without locality specification.

Herbarium voucher specimen:— A single herbarium sheet with eight plants (four are polliniferous, pollen grains irregular in size). – Flora von Bulgarien, Rila-Gebirge, Musalla-Hütte. 12 Jul [19]76, R. Doll [as Taraxacum mattmarkense] (JE, no. det. 19262).

Interpretation:As pointed out by Štěpánek & Kirschner (1999), T. mattmarkense is a remarkable member of T. sect. Alpina, confined to the western part of the Alps. It is very dissimilar from the above Bulgarian material, and there is no other indication of its occurrence in Bulgaria. The plants under this name in the Doll’s collection mostly belong to what is described as T. serenum below.
