Genus Ceratopogon Meigen, 1803

Type species. Tipula barbicornis Linnaeus, 1758 (misidentified = Ceratopogon communis Meigen), by monotypy.

Diagnosis. Eyes pubescent, narrowly separated; first antennal flagellomere with sensilla coeloconica, all flagellomeres separated; katepisternum bare, without setae; wing with two radial cells; Legs slender, unarmed with spines; fourth tarsomere cordiform. Female with three seminal capsules. Aedeagus with 2 submedian and 2 lateral prongs, parameres usually separate. Palisade setae on hind leg in a single row on proximal 2/3 (Wirth & Grogan 1988, Borkent & Grogan 1995). This Holarctic genus includes 41 extant species (Borkent 2015).
