Handleyomys Voss, Gómez-Laverde & Pacheco 2002
The genus Handleyomys was described by Voss et al. (2002) to accommodate two species, H. fuscatus (Allen 1912), and H. intectus (Thomas 1921), both endemic to the North-Andean region, inhabiting the montane forests of the Andes in Colombia. H. fuscatus were from the western Andes and specimens of H. intectus were from the central Andes. However, they can also be found in semi-natural environments, mainly in pastures and agricultural areas associated with the remaining forest (Voss et al. 2002; Prado & Percequillo 2013).
