Aneuclis achterbergi Khalaim, sp. nov.
(Figs 26–31)
Comparison. The species may easily be recognized by its extremely slender antennal flagellum (Fig. 27). It is also distinct in having stout ovipositor (its height at midlength about 1.5× width of hind basitarsus) with extreme apex strongly upcurved (Fig. 31).
Description. Female. Body length 3.1 mm. Fore wing length 2.5 mm.
Head strongly and almost straightly tapered behind eyes in dorsal view; temple 0.45× as long as eye width (Fig. 28). Clypeus almost 5.0× as broad as long, convex in lateral view, impunctate, weakly shining, smooth in lower part and very shallowly granulate in upper part, separated from face by shallow and broad impression. Mandible slender, with upper tooth distinctly longer than lower tooth. Malar space slightly concave, about 1.2× as long as basal mandibular width. Antennal flagellum unusually slender, slightly clavate apically, with 14 flagellomeres (Fig. 27); second and third flagellomeres almost 3.5×, subapical flagellomeres about 1.6× as long as broad. Eyes enlarged. Face and frons finely granulate, impunctate, weakly shining. Vertex almost smooth, impunctate, weakly shining. Temple smooth and shining, impunctate. Occipital carina complete laterally and absent mediodorsally.
Mesosoma mostly very shallowly granulate, dull, impunctate. Scutellum with lateral longitudinal carinae present in its extreme base. Notaulus with rather strong wrinkle (Fig. 29). Foveate groove extending in anterior 0.7 of mesopleuron, strongly oblique anteriorly, deep and broad, with distinct transverse wrinkles (Fig. 29). Basal keel of propodeum about 0.55× as long as apical area (Fig. 30). Propodeal spiracle small, separated from pleural carina by almost 4.0× diameter of spiracle. Apical area slightly convex, widely rounded anteriorly (Fig. 30); apical longitudinal carinae weak, reaching transverse carina anteriorly.
Fore wing with second recurrent vein (2 m-cu) distinctly postfurcal, weakly pigmented in anterior half. Intercubitus (2 rs-m) thick and short, much shorter than abscissa of cubitus between intercubitus and second recurrent vein (abscissa of M between 2 rs-m and 2 m-cu). First abscissa of radius (Rs +2 r) straight, slightly longer than width of pterostigma. First and second sections of radius (Rs +2 r and Rs) meeting at right angle. Metacarpus (R 1) almost reaching tip of the wing. Second abscissa of postnervulus absent, thus brachial cell is widely open posteriorly. Hind wing with nervellus (cu 1& cu-a) weakly reclivous. Legs very slender. Hind femur 6.5× as long as broad. Hind tibia 1.1× as long as femur.
First tergite very slender, 4.8× as long as posteriorly broad, more or less round in cross-section, predominantly smooth, with weak glymma slightly behind centre; petiole laterally partly striate, weakly separated from postpetiole in dorsal view. Second tergite 2.2× as long as anteriorly broad. Thyridial depression 3.0–3.5× as long as broad. Ovipositor stout, cylindrical, with apex strongly upcurved, its height at midlength about 1.5× width of hind basitarsus; sheath about 1.5× as long as first tergite.
Head, mesosoma and first metasomal segment black. Palpi and mandible yellow, mandibular teeth reddish. Clypeus reddish brown in its lower 0.4. Scape and pedicel of antenna yellow, flagellum yellowish brown basally to fuscous apically. Tegula yellow to pale brown. Pterostigma brown. Legs yellow. Metasoma behind first tergite pale brown ventrally to dark brown dorsally.
Male. Unknown.
Variation. Paratype female is very similar morphologically to the holotype but is smaller, with body length 2.3 mm and fore wing length 2.0 mm.
Etymology. The species is named in honour of Cornelis van Achterberg (Leiden), expert in Braconidae and collector of the type material.
