Type material. Holotype: BRAZIL: Mato Grosso: ♀, Alta Floresta [‑9.8760, ‑56.0860], 8 August–20 September 2009, J.S. Oliveira leg. (IBSP 246428).

Etymology. The specific name refers to the businessman Ariosto da Riva, who in the early 70’s acquired the region currently known as Alta Floresta, to start a new settlement project; genitive case.

Diagnosis. Females of M. rivai sp. nov. are distinguished from the remaining congeners by the epigyne with MS Erlenmeyer-shaped (Fig. 242) and vulva with SP elongate with smooth margins (Figs 243). Males are unknown.

Description. Female (holotype): Total length 17.6. Prosoma 6.8 long, 6.8 wide. Opisthosoma 10.7 long, 7.5 wide. Eyes: diameters: 0.46, 0.41, 0.30, 0.36; interdistances: 0.47, 0.38, 0.84, 0.81, 0.43, 0.28. Legs: I: 27.0 (7.5, 3.3, 6.8, 7.3, 2.1); 28.6 (8.6, 3.5, 7.0, 7.5, 2.0); III: 21.0 (6.6, 2.9, 5.0, 4.9, 1.6); IV: 22.8 (7.2, 2.6, 5.4, 5.8, 1.8). Spination follows the generic pattern. Epigyne: EF wider than long; MAB elongate; MS longer than wide, widest posteriorly; HP triangular, 1.5 times longer than wide, opening at posterior margin of MS; LL touching posteriorly (Figs 242, 248). Vulva: internal ducts with FW antero laterad; GP slightly longer than wide, mediad, arising from ducts at first turn; FD anteriad to antero-laterad (Figs 243–244, 249).

Male: unknown.

Distribution. Only known from the type locality (Fig. 319).
