Dorisiana metcalfi Sanborn & Heath, 2014

Cicada viridis Olivier 1790: 754 . (Suriname)

Dorisiana metcalfi Sanborn & Heath 2014 nom. nov. pro Cicada viridis Olivier, 1790 nec Cicada viridis Linnaeus, 1758: 60 .

REMARKS. Metcalf (1952) previously synonymized the species with Dorisiana semilata (Walker, 1850) . However, the taxon represented by Cicada viridis Olivier, 1790 appears to be distinct from D. semilata in genitalia and other morphological characteristics so that Sanborn & Heath (2014) provided Dorisiana metcalfi as a replacement name for the taxon represented by Cicada viridis Olivier, 1790 . Specimens from Suriname are required to be able to determine if D. metcalfi and D. semilata are in fact synonyms.

The most similar Bolivian species is D. noriegai Sanborn & Heath, 2014 . This species can be distinguished by the lack of piceous spots on the posterior head and posterior eye, the lack of marks on the parapsidal suture, the curved ventral margin to the timbal cover, the straight posterior opercular margin, the piceous pile on the abdominal tergites, the longer pygofer basal lobes, the extensions of the lateral branch of the uncus are short rather than horn-like, the female dorsal beak not extending beyond the anal styles, and the ovipositor not extending beyond the dorsal beak.

DISTRIBUTION. The species has been reported from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela (Metcalf 1963a; Dorval et al. 2011; Sanborn 2011b; 2013; Santos-Cividanes et al. 2013; Sanborn & Heath 2014; Dias et al. 2017). The species has been reported from Curoïco and Mapiri (Jacobi 1907).
