Ectomocoris myrmecoides Jeannel, 1917

Original data: “ Afrique Orientale anglaise: Maji-Chumvi et Samburu, dans les Wa-Nyika (ALLUAUD, juillet 1904)” (Jeannel 1917: 303) .

Type: Lectotype ♀, designated by Jeannel (1919: 247): “ TYPE ” // “Juillet” // “ MUSEUM PARIS AFRIQUE ORIENT. ANGL. MAJI-CHUMVI (WA-NYIKA). CH. ALLUAUD 1904” // “ Ectomocoris myrmecoides n. sp. R. JEANNEL det.” [hw Jeannel] (Fig. 14).

Type locality: Maji-Chumvi (Wa-Nyika) [Kenya] .

Current status: Valid species.

Remarks: A brief “preliminary diagnosis” of Ectomocoris myrmecoides, which nevertheless represented a proposal of the name in an available way, was published by Jeannel (1917), without designating holotype or mentioning the number of type specimens; the original description neither implies nor requires that there were more than one syntypes. A subsequent detailed redescription (Jeannel 1919: 247) listed a single “type” as “une femelle aptère de Maji-Chumvi (Mus. Paris)” and another female from “ Samburu ”. The act of Jeannel (1919) is to be recognized as a valid lectotype designation according to ICZN (1999, Art. 74.6); the female from Samburu is to be treated as a paralectotype. The paralectotype is on loan and it could not be examined.
