Pachysandalus collaris Jeannel, 1917
Original data: “ Afrique Orientale anglaise: Tavéta (ALLUAUD et JEANNEL, mars 1912)” (Jeannel 1917: 304) .
Types: Syntype 1 ♀: “ TYPE ” // “Afrique Orient. Anglaise TAVÉTA ALLUAUD & JEANNEL Mars 1912 - 750 m - St. 65” // “ Pachysandalus collaris n. sp. R. JEANNEL det.” [hw Jeannel] (Fig. 42) .
Syntypes 2 ♀♀: same label information as above but without the identification label.
Type locality: Afrique orientale anglaise: Tavéta [Kenya].
Current status: Valid species (Coscarón 2002: 32–35).
Remarks: A brief “preliminary diagnosis” of Pachysandalus collaris, which nevertheless represented a proposal of the name in an available way, was published by Jeannel (1917), without designating holotype or mentioning the number of type specimens. A subsequent detailed redescription (Jeannel 1919: 252) mentioned “2 femelles”, both from “ Tavéta (750 m), St. [station] n° 65, mars 1912 ”, as “types”. We, however, found three females with the same data in the MNHN collection, provided with type labels by the author himself: one as holotype, with a red label with “TYPE” printed in black (as in Fig. 42), and two as paratypes, with a white label with "TYPE” printed in red. As no holotype was designated in the original description, and no lectotype has subsequently been designated, the specimens are to be considered as syntypes, with no regard to their labels (ICZN 1999, Arts. 73.1.3, 73.2).
In addition, Jeannel (1919: 252) rectified the body length of the species erroneously recorded in Jeannel (1917: 304). It’s “ 10 mm ” instead of “ 19 mm ”.
