Distribution. Cyprus (Chartosia et al. 2018), Greece (Micali et al. 2017; Angelidis & Polyzoulis 2018), Hawaii (Kay 1979; Hemmes et al. 1996c; Severns 2011; Polhemus 2020), Israel (Mediterranean Sea, non-indigenous) (Steger et al. 2018; Albano et al. 2020; Albano et al. 2021) Marshall Islands (Kay & Johnson 1987), New Caledonia (Jousseaume 1884; Tryon 1887; Paetel 1888; Hervier 1899), Philippines (Kosuge & Chino 2008; Poppe 2008), Turkey (Stamouli et al. 2017).

Remarks. This tropical species entered the Mediterranean Sea where it is now widespread in the eastern basin (Micali et al. 2017; Stamouli et al. 2017; Angelidis & Polyzoulis, 2018; Chartosia et al. 2018; Steger et al. 2018). It has been previously identified as Viriola corrugata (e.g. Stamouli et al. 2017; Chartosia et al. 2018). However, Mediterranean records are now identified as V. cf. bayani .
