Obelia longissima (Pallas, 1766)

Material examined. Stn. AZU — 22.i.2008, S02 (5 m): several fertile colonies, up to 11.5 cm high (MHNG- INVE-79635). Stn. YBU — 26.iv.2011, S14 (20 m): several sterile colonies, up to 13 cm high, on dead gorgonian.

Distribution in Chile. Often recorded from an area encompassing the Reloncaví Sound and the gulfs of Ancud and Corcovado (Hartlaub 1905, Jäderholm 1910, Leloup 1974, present study). Also recorded from the Strait of Magellan (Hartlaub, 1905, Vervoort 1972), but possibly widely-spread along the whole Chilean coast.

World records. Near cosmopolitan (Vervoort & Watson 2003).
