Oxysarcodexia edwardsi Lopes, 1946
(Figs 108–110)
Oxysarcodexia edwardsi Lopes, 1946b: 123; Colombia, Gorgona Island . Holotype male and one male paratype in NHMUK (not examined), one male paratype in MNRJ.
Diagnosis. Male. Length 9.0–10.0 mm. Postocular plate with pale golden pollinosity. Ocellar bristles well developed. Thorax grayish and with pale golden pollinosity, T5 with golden pollinosity along the entire extension. Two welldifferentiated posterior and 3 smaller anterior post-sutural dorsocentrals. Apical scutellar bristles absent. Legs blackish. Abdomen grayish with golden pollinosity laterally, T4 with 1 pair of median marginal bristles. ST5 with deep median V-shaped cleft. Cercus blackish and with arrow-shaped apex in posterior view. Distiphallus conical and dark brown. Vesica notably asymmetrical.
Remarks. Comparison of the terminalia of O. edwardsi with those of other Oxysarcodexia species shows similarities with O. parva and O. trivialis (Wulp, 1895) (Figs 109, 211, 265). The cercus is very similar to that of O. parva, but the vesica is completely different and more similar to that of O. trivialis . In O. edwardsi the vesica presents an angular projection of the main branch, a more enlarged basal portion of the distal lobes and apex of distal lobes directed ventroapically. The main vesica branch in O. parva has a rounded projection and scale-like adornment laterally on the middle portion; the distal lobes of the vesica are divided into two small lobes, partially membranous and folded laterally, with a sclerotized and tooth-like structure between them (Fig. 211). In O. trivialis, the main vesica branch presents a rounded projection, the basal portion of the distal lobes is narrower and the apex of the distal lobes is directed dorsoapically (Fig. 265). Material identified as O. edwardsi by Pamplona et al. (2000) and deposited in the collection of MNRJ ([4 ♂] Paquetá Rio de Janeiro Brasil / 06-IV-93 D. Pamplona & V. C. Maia col. / Oxysarcodexia edwardsi Lopes Det. R. Tibana) actually belongs to O. parva, which means that Brazil must be omitted from the distribution of this species. Female unknown.
Distribution. NEOTROPICAL. Colombia.
