Diagnosis. Female: The only species of Culicoides with the following combination of characters: Wing with ill-defined pale markings post-stigmatic, over r-m crossvein and in basal portion of cell m2 and anal cell (Fig. 8); SCo distribution 1–12, third palpal segment conical, bearing a single broad, shallow pit; sclerotized ring at the end of spermathecal duct absent. Male: The only species of Culicoides with the following combination of characters: Wing with ill-defined pale markings post-stigmatic, over r-m crossvein and in basal portion of cell m2 and anal cell; parameres fused for a short distance, ninth sternite with basal membrane moderately spiculated, SCo distribution 1–12.

Distribution. Albania, Greece, France (including Corsica), Italy (including Sardinia and Sicily), Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Ukraine and Slovakia.
