Family Sesiidae
Sesiidae is group of wasp mimicking moths with narrow, transparent wings (scales retained along margins and on veins) having uniquely specialized coupling apparatus in addition to frenuluo-retinacular wing coupling. In females, frenulum is a single bristle. Proboscis unscaled and labial palpi porrect or upturned, often roughly scaled. Most of the adult’s rest with their wings half-spread and their bodies almost parallel to the surface. The family comprises 1553 species and 46 subspecies in 165 genera, under Sesiinae and Tinthiinae (Pühringer & Kallies 2004, 2023). In India, 89 species in 38 genera are known, so far.
