Alphitobius diaperinus (Panzer, 1797)

Remarks. Sub-Saharan species, currently cosmopolitan (Geden & Hogsette 1994; Lambkin 2001). Seidlitz (1891) is one of the oldest mentions of its presence in Romania. It is a pest of stored grains and in the poultry industry (Aalbu et al. 2002). Alphitobius diaperinus is a bird nest-adapted species that feeds on scraps and detritus in the nests of a wide variety of species, including pigeons, sparrows (Arshad et al. 1984; Bhattacharyya 1995), and bats guano in caves (McFarlane 1971).
