Diagnosis. Summary of original description with updated terminology (after McAlpine, 1964a).

Male. Frons dull black. Calypteres greyish-brown with dark-brown margins and fringes. All tarsi entirely brownish-black. Wings brownish hyaline; veins dark-brown. Male terminalia; epandrium much longer than broad, in lateral view with about five long setae at postero-lateral angles. Phallus C-shaped; slightly more than 3x as long as base; apex strongly expanded and trumpet-like; pubescent in middle, and with a patch of extremely small spicules just preceding the apical flare.

Type material. Holotype ♂, allotype ♀ and 1 ♂ paratype. VANUATU: Efate, Vila, vii.1950, N. L. H. Krauss. HT ♂ no. 67446, USNM.
