Diagnosis. Summary of original description with updated terminology (after McAlpine, 1964a).

Male. All metatarsi yellow on basal two-thirds. Calypteres brownish-yellow with deep golden-brown margins and fringes. Wings brownish-hyaline. Epandrium wider than long in lateral view; five long, strong setae along posterior margin. Surstylus projecting as an emarginate point far beyond ventral margin of epandrium; bearing approximately seven strong setae. Phallus C-shaped in lateral view; with a double hump in the back of the C; 4x as long as base; apical portion extremely trumpet-like, the apical margins strongly flared; median region pubescent.

Type material. SAMOA: Tutuila, Pago Pago, 8. ix. 1953, C. P. Hoyt. Holotype ♂. no.3614 (BPBM).

Additional material. VANUATU: Efate, Vila, 0-5m, ii.1970, N. L. H. Krauss, 3♂ (BPBM) .

Remarks. Originally described and previously only known from Samoa (24 specimens). In the original description there is data relating to the larval substrate with some of specimens recorded being reared from the rotting bark of Tamanu (Calophyllum inophyllum L.) and under dead bark of Erythrina ( Erythrina variegata L.).
