Genus Questa Hartman, 1966

? Questa caudicirra Hartman, 1966

DISTRIBUTION: SA.

LITERATURE RECORDS: Fraschetti et al. 2002.

REMARKS: Genus Questa was previously considered part of the former family Questidae Hartman, 1966, which was shown by phylogenetic and cladistic analyses to be a lineage within the family Orbiniidae Hartman, 1942 (Rousset et al. 2007, Giere et al. 2008). The type locality of Q. caudicirra is Southern California (Hartman 1966). Giere & Erséus (1998) reported its distribution from the west coast of North America (California, British Columbia) and Gulf of Mexico (west coast of Florida) while considering the record from Canary Islands, in the East Atlantic Ocean (Delgado & Núñez 1994) as doubtful. The only record of the species in the Adriatic sea is by Fraschetti et al. (2002), in the southern basin. Since the previous records of Q. caudicirra in the Tyrrhenian Sea (Italy) by Somaschini & Gravina (1993) were determined to belong to a new species, Q. mediterranea Giere & Erséus, 1998, the record of Q. caudicirra in the SA should be considered as doubtful, as it may represent Q. mediterranea .
