Material examined

1, medusa; El Comitán Beach, La Paz Bay, Baja California Sur, 24.128°N, 110.418°W; water surface; 30 October 2017; ECO-CH-Z 11778 .

Identification (after Stiasny 1920)

Umbrella hemispherical, margin with numerous marginal lappets resembling tentacles, and eight rhopalia. Exumbrella covered with gelatinous papillae. Eight oral arms with numerous appendages, 16 radial canals, eight perradial and eight interradial, connecting the central stomach and circular canal.

Distribution

Previously recorded from the west coast of the Gulf of California, Baja California Sur, under Lobonematidae sp. (Bayha et al. 2010) and Lobonematidae sp. 1 (Gómez Daglio and Dawson 2017). In the MP, for the Pacific coast of Baja California Sur as Lobonematidae sp . 1 (Gómez Daglio and Dawson 2017).

Remarks

Based on morphological and molecular data of this medusa, recorded in the MP from Baja California Sur as Lobonemidae sp. 1 (Gómez Daglio and Dawson 2017). However, a more detailed morphological description and molecular analysis with a larger number of specimens are needed. Currently, the family is considered valid by Jarms and Morandini (2019) and WoRMS Editorial Board 2023).
