Distribution. Iran, Transcaucasia (probably), Afghanistan (Amsel 1951, 1961, 1970; Slamka 2013). Despite the type locality (Mirabi Mt.) (Toll 1948), it has been reported from Sangan and Taftan Mt. (Sistan and Baluchestan Province) [as Trigonuncus pionalis Toll] and Karaj (Alborz Province; type locality) [as T. nissalis Amsel] (Amsel 1951, 1961).
Remarks. The shape of the uncus varies in different pupulations from clearly triangular with nearly pointed tip (Fig. 19B) to an uncus with a narrower neck (Fig. 19A, C). However, the shape of the juxta is constant among them. As stated by Slamka (2013), there are also some variations in the shape of the phallus and cornuti. According to Slamka (2013), the valvae of P. pionalis are wider than that of P. zeitunalis . However, we did not find any difference between them in this regard (Figs 18D–F, 19A–D).
