Type data
This species was described based on a couple of female and male specimens collected in Arequipa, southern Peru. Both specimens were collected by Edmundo Escomel (1880–1959), a Peruvian doctor who dedicated his free time as a meticulous observer of the flora, fauna and the natural environment (Velarde 2006). The male holotype (Fig. 29) and the female paratype are housed at the NMNH. The holotype has the following data label: Arequipa Peru (Escomel) [handwritten]\ Centris escomeli Ckll. Comment
This species was correctly interpreted as a valid species by Moure et al. (2007) and Vivallo (2013).
