Notes for local identification: Mostly encrusting, green colonies. This species was formerly known as P. superficialis (Gardiner, 1898) which has recently been synonymized with P. profundacella in a molecular and morphological revision of the genus Psammocora (Benzoni et al, 2010).

Abundance: Uncommon.

Depth of occurrence: about 3 m.
