Remarks.

The "Deutsche Südpolar-Expedition” - sometimes referred to as the “Gauß-Expedition” - ran from 1901-1903 under the leadership of Erich von Drygalski. The Simons Town material was evidently collected during a stopover in South Africa on the return leg of the expedition. Silvestri (1904) described the species shortly afterwards, but the Berlin material does not belong to the type species which is cited as having come from “Zwarsberg” in South Africa with Max C. Weber as the collector. The BIOTA material stems from a major project on the southern African fauna and was collected by MfN staff members Jürgen Deckert, Manfred Uhlig and Peter Giere; with identification by Katrin Vohland.
