This species is distributed along the west coast in Mexico on the Pacific slope, between northern Sinaloa and Chiapas, in areas with a tropical dry forest, mostly corresponding to the Pacific Lowlands biogeographic province (Morrone et al. 2022) (Fig. 4). Altitudinal range: 105 to 1426 m.

Etymology. This species is dedicated to the Mexican curator and art historian Amanda de la Garza, General Director of Visual Arts and the University Museum of Contemporary Art from UNAM (MUAC). Her professional practice has focused on contemporary art and archival exhibitions, contributing greatly to Mexico’s cultural scene.

Comments. There is variation among the females on the DBP on scutum, from one third to one fourth, as well as on the DOP on T3 varying from larger than on T1 to smaller than on T3, but as coarse as T3. Among males there is a small variation on the interantennal distance and on DBP and DOP on T3.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/D838E015FFACB05FFF5DC53090A77F61	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. This species is distributed along the Pacific slope of Mexico, with records in central Mexico, being endemic to it, in the states of Morelos and Oaxaca, present in tropical dry forest (Fig. 6). Altitudinal range: 26 to 1251 m.

Etymology. This species is dedicated to Briceida Cuevas Cob, bilingual Mayan poet and founder of the Asociación de Escritores en Lenguas Indígenas de Mexico.

Comments. Males of this species are similar to H. viridiana sp. nov., but can be recognized by having black flagellum, process of S1, in posterior view, with rounded corners, similar to two cusps on top, and in tufts and pubescence of apical margin of S5 and S6. We used location data to establish the female of this species.Although we highlight some differences with females of H. viridiana sp. nov., further analysis needs to be done due to the small number of specimens, and the similarities among females of other Neotropical species.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/D838E015FFA8B043FF5DC2E1973D7BD8	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Hairs on posterior terga strongly orange, tergal fasciae with rows (Fig. 3K, Fig. 9B), as on H. vulcanica sp. nov. (Fig. 33B); punctation on T3 small (third of DOP as on scutum), sparse (2.5 times DOP) and shallow (Fig. 3K), on males is slightly denser and coarser but remain small; head and mesosoma with a few long, white, thin, plumose hairs, scattered along giving untidy appearance. Male: paraocular area with short, white, thin, plumose hairs, as well in clypeus (Fig. 9A), denser on apical margin; hypostomal area and fore tarsal segments with long, white, dense plumose hairs; antennae brown, sometimes lighter ventrally; S1 produced to median angle (Fig. 2 Cb), in profile, with soft ventral angle on one third of distance from apex to base (Fig. 2 Ca); posterior margin of S5 with two rectangular lobes, with one line of simple hairs on top, and medially with two tufts of simple, sometimes hooked, differently sized hairs, directed inward (Fig. 9E); S6 produced to right-angled apex, with two subapical tufts with few short, curved, thin hairs (Fig. 9F). Female: mandible with carinae subparallel without tubercle; clypeus with shallow emargination on one half of apical margin, and two small, rounded tubercles (Fig. 9C).

Additional material examined: BELIZE: Cayo District, Pine Ridge, Cooma Cairn [949 m. 16.99861111 -88.84777778]. 30/IV/2009. This species is the most common in the subgenus and has the widest distribution, from northern Mexico in Chihuahua to Costa Rica, along the Pacific Lowlands biogeographic province and the Mexican Transition Zone (Morrone et al. 2022) (Fig. 8). Altitudinal range: 70–2258 m.

Comments. This species presents variation on density of hairs of clypeus in males, as well as size of tubercles on apical margin of clypeus in females. It is one of three species with orange hairs on posterior terga, but the only small one. There are some female specimens from Morelos, Mexico with outer surface of mandible with a tuberclelike strong longitudinal elevation at base of outer ridge, and punctation on T3 slightly dense and coarsely, that we couldn’t place, as there are males from this locality that correspond to H. bruneri .

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/D838E015FFB4B040FF5DC6B997717E03	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. This species was previously registered as present in Panamá and Costa Rica, but here we extend the distribution northwards to South Mexico, in the Pacific slope along the coast of Oaxaca and Chiapas, areas with tropical dry forest, basically in the Pacific Lowlands biogeographic province (Morrone et al. 2022), and also south to Colombia with the synonymy of H. tayrona . There are also records from Cuba and The Española Island, but these females registered likely are a new species yet to be described (Fig. 14). Altitudinal range: sea level to 1395 m.

Comments. The holotype female of H. currani has small tubercles on apical margin of clypeus, however there is variation in the size, as well as, on outer surface of mandible in females, and small differences in the tubercle on the basal point of outer ridge. Also, there are small differences in the width and length of the hairs in the tergal fasciae. In males, S5, S6 and the genital capsule are similar to H. tayrona Gonzalez & Griswold, 2011, described from northern Colombia. As males from South Mexico have an intermediate ocelli size between H. currani and H. tayrona, and this was the only character upholding the species status of H. tayrona, it is here added as new synonym.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/D838E015FFBDB048FF5DC2E9925E7E2D	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. This species is present mainly in the northern Mexico, in the states of Chihuahua and Sonora, in the Sierra Madre Occidental and Chihuahuan biogeographic provinces (Morrone et al. 2022). There is a questionable record of one male from Colorado, United States (Fig. 16). Altitudinal range: 19 to 1511 m.

Etymology. This species is dedicated to Dra. Danuncia Urban, taxonomist and melittologist from Brazil, at Universidade Federal do Paraná, who contributed to the knowledge of Neotropical bees, especially Eucerini and Anthidiini .

Comments. In males, the DBP on frons can vary from 0.25 to 0.20 DOP, as well as in the DOP on T3. The males of this species are the most distinct ones among the genus by having tubercles on carinae on outer surface of mandible, and gonostylus, with subquadrate tips with tuft of simple and hooked hairs. Females of this species differ from H. micheneri as well by having usually more orangish hairs in tuft of dorsolateral angles of pronotum, while in H. micheneri hairs are usually whitish to yellow.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/D838E015FFBFB04CFF5DC3AD918C7C64	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Most of the known specimens are from Costa Rica, but two female specimens are from Chiapas, in southern Mexico (Fig. 22). This species is endemic from Central America, associate to the tropical and cloud forest. Altitudinal range: 19 to 1236 m.

Etymology. This species is named after melittologist Dra. Mariana Acuña Cordero, who had contributed greatly on the knowledge of native bees from Costa Rica. She works in an integral way on ecology, natural history, taxonomy and environmental education.

Comments. There is variation on base of labrum, in the size of medial tubercle. This species is similar to H. currani however the male differs by having two subapical spikes on S6 and females with apical margin of clypeus with more than two tubercles all of the same size. On females the tubercle on outer surface of mandible varies from straight to slightly curved. The spikes of S6 on males are similar to H. amanda sp. nov. but differ in being one structure and not a few hairs together, and in profile having a quadrangular tip.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/D838E015FF81B07BFF5DC57897517C42	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. There are records from the Sierra Madre Occidental, from Chihuahua to Guerrero, and it is endemic to Mexico (Fig. 26). Altitudinal range: 91 to 2230 m.

Etymology. This species is dedicated to the memory of Nora Patricia López, an environment biologist who worked in the protection of red Guacamayas ( Ara macao), a species with high extinction risk in Chiapas, Mexico. She is one of the many environmentalists murdered for their activism on behalf of biodiversity protection in Latin America.

Comments. This species is abundant in collections. Females present variation in the size of tubercles on apical margin of clypeus. Females punctures on T3 varies slightly on size, but always large, also varies on shape from rounded to the more usual horseshoe-shaped. Males present variation in hairs of clypeus, on some long enough to cover low margin, and on others shorter, showing a few smaller hairs in the middle of apical margin.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/D838E015FF8FB07DFF5DC3F597A57F61	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
