Holotype labeled: Brésil El Marco Amazonas 16.12.73 J.G; Physopleurus swifti Chalumeau ’09 [bordered by black line]; HOLO- TYPE [red]. Deposited at Institut de Recherches entomologiques de la Caraïbe.

Holotype. Male. Dorsally, the anterior part of the body and legs dark brown, elytra lighter. Total length 69 mm. Length of mandibles (measured from base to apex, and without taking into account their curvature estimated at 2 mm) 9 mm. Head length (measured at middle) 12 mm, width 13.4 mm (measured at mid-gena). Length of pronotum 9 mm, width 18 mm. Elytra subparallel, length 41 mm, widest width 22 mm.

Head convex, sloping abruptly in its anterior part; punctation very coarse, punctures alveolate (except on genae and towards rear where punctures are much finer and closer together). Clypeus depressed, punctures fine and anastomosed. Frontoclypeal suture evident. Front with distinct median groove not exceeding height of eye. Antennae (in normal position) reaching almost halfway to middle of elytra. Scape reaching posterior rim of eye, strongly expanded, with quite fine, widely-spaced punctures. Labrum finely punctate, with short, fine bristles. Mentum>6 times wider than long. Gula flattened, punctation coarse and anastomosed, with apical area devoid of punctures but with strong transverse lines. Second segment of maxillary palp as long as third. Mandibles large and elongate, their upper margin forming a half circle, with rather coarse and sparse punctures; inner part depressed and coarsely punctate. With two strong teeth, the basal (premolar) tooth sharp and the preapical tooth forming a bifurcated plate.

Pronotum twice as wide as long, with lateral edges serrulate; anterior margin concave, scarcely bisinuate; flattened disk forming an almost smooth area with close punctures in the median furrow (which is not very distinct), punctures further apart on the lateral faces; laterally excavated and coarsely punctate, punctures coarsely areolate and confluent.

Elytra subparallel, punctures coarse and close together (more markedly so on disc); apical declivity slightly accentuated; apical angles rounded.

Protibiae with several spines on underside and edges, meso- and metatibiae with few spines, inter alia. Femora unarmed.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03C61D1CEE766A600AECFB5AFC03522E	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. See Agosti, D., Egloff, W., 2009.
