Remarks: In Brazil, this genus encompass nine species distributed along the coast: Cymothoa brasiliensis Schioedte & Meinert, 1884 , C. catarinensis Thatcher, Loyola e Silva, Jost & Souza-ConceiÇão, 2003, C. excisa , C.exigua Schioedte & Meinert,1884 , C. gerris Schioedte & Meinert, 1884 , C. ianuarii , C. liannae Sartor & Pires, 1988 , C. oestrum and C. spinipalpa Thatcher, de Araujo, de Lima & Chellapa, 2007 ( Thatcher, 2000; Thatcher et al., 2003; Thatcher & Fonseca, 2005; Thatcher et al., 2007; Luque et al., 2013).
