Entomobrya stramineola Womersley, 1942
Entomobrya straminea Börner, 1913 ; nom. praeoc. nec Folsom, 1899.
Type locality. Nongkodjadjar; Java, Indonesia .
Other material examined. SAMA: Material cited by Womersley (1942). “In numbers in the leaf sheaths of banana at Morobe, New Britain, June 1937, (J.L. Frogatt), and banana and sugarcane, Brisbane, Queensland, 27 July, 1940 ( R. Jarvis)”. The first slide is not in the Womersley collection, the second locality comprises two slides. Both are crystalized and broken. One of them with two specimens was rehydrated in situ with Hoyer. The chaetotaxy of one specimen, a male, has a mucro as drawn by Womersley (1942).
Redescription based on the Australian material. Macrochaetae. Manubrial plate with three chaetae and 2 pseudocelli. The chaetotaxy has a formula 4,1,0,1,2/0,1/0,2/0,0,1/0,0,2,2,2: The Mc present: Head: An 1, An 2, An 3a2, An 3a1, An 3; M 1, M 2 and M 4; S 0, S 2, S 3, S 4 and S 5, Ps 2, Ps 3 and Ps 5. On Th II only m 5 present; on Abd II m 3 and m 3e present; on Abd III Mc m 3 present; on Abd IV Mc A 4 –A 6 and B 4 –B 6 present.
This formula is similar in some respects with E. assuta , but can be distinguished because different chaetae contribute to the same formula.
It is unlikely that E. stramineola occurs in Australia.
