Genus Colposcelis Dejean, 1834

Schuster (1940) proposed the diagnostic features of the subgenera representing Colposcelis . Later, Medvedev (1970) updated his findings by defining Turcmenicola and contrasting it with of the subgenera. Nevertheless, delamination between some subgenera is unclear, and some features given by Schuster (1940) can only be used for distinguishing species (especially complete / incomplete elytral border). Here we present a key to subgenera:

1. Dorsal surface of right mandible with tooth before apex...................................................... 2

– Dorsal surface of right mandible without additional tooth before apex........................................... 4

2. Elytral base incomplete, border reaching only middle of elytral base................................ Colposceloides

– Elytral base completely bordered........................................................................ 3

3. Antennomere 3 longer than 2. Eyes wide, transverse-oval............................................ Colposcelis

– Antennomere 2 and 3 with subequal length. Eyes small and narrow................................... Colposcythis

4. Epipleural carina without sharp borders passes into the bordering of elytral base. Base of elytra gently sloping, without vertical margin................................................................................... Turcmenicola

– Elytra with sharp humeral angle separating elytral border and epipleural carina. Base of elytra forms sharp vertical margin............................................................................................. Scelocolpis
