Genus Kribiodosis Kieffer, 1921 View in CoL

Type species: Kribiodosis fasciata Kieffer, 1921 [= Kribiodosis clavigera Kieffer, 1921 ]

Other included species: Kribiodosis cantonensis Tang sp. n.

These two species conformed largely to the generic diagnosis of Freeman (1958), with the following emendations.

Male. Coloration. Thorax generally brown in color, with variable extent and depth of pigment, scutal vittae dark or dark brown. Wing slightly brown, membrane weakly punctate. Leg brown or dark brown, with pale bands at the apices of all femorae and tibiae.Abdomen generally yellow, with banded intersegmental conjunctives on TI-VII. Segment VIII and IX usually wholly dark brown, gonocoxite and gonostylus pale yellow.

Head. Antenna with 13 segments (if counting as 12-segmented, then the boundary of last segmentation is indistinct). Frontal tubercle absent. Palp segment normal, the terminal segment usually no longer than the preterminal segment.

Thorax. With scutal tubercle ( K. cantonensis sp. n.) or without ( K. clavigera ) a tubercle. Acrostichals absent, dorsocentrals and scutellars few (usually no more than five). Prealars and supraalars both absent. Humeral pits present.

Legs. Fore tibia with slender round scale bearing thin and pointed spur. Tibial combs of mid and hind tibiae separate ( K. clavigera ) or fused ( K. cantonensis sp. n.); if separated, with only one hooked long spur in the smaller comb. Middle section of fourth tarsus of male fore leg with three dark brown pseudospurs, longer than the diameter of fourth tarsus, projecting inwardly. Pulvilli distinct.

Wing. Membrane without setae or microtrichia.Anal lobe absent. Costa ending abruptly at apex of R 4+5, proximal to wing apex; R 2+3 ending near proximal 1/4–1/5 between R 1 and R 4+5. FCu clearly distal to RM. R bare, R 1 and R 4+5 with a few setae. Squama bare.

Abdomen. Segment VIII clearly tapered anteriorly.

Hypopygium. Anal tergite bands strong, meeting in median area. T IX with 1–2 median anal setae and 4–8 marginal setae on each side. Anal point short, parallel-sided, distally rounded. Superior volsella thin triangular, with narrow apex, inner margin with 2–3 basal setae. Inferior volsella setose, apex with 10–12 strong setae, extending beyond apex of anal point. Gonostylus relatively short, with a slightly triangular apex, inner margin with 6–8 nearly equally spaced long setae.

Female. Coloration. As male except wing somewhat smoky, and abdominal segments IV–VIII nearly wholly dark brown.

Head. Antenna with 4 or 5 segments. Frontal tubercle absent.

Thorax and wing as male.

Legs without pseudospurs on the fore tarsomere 4 on fore leg. Color as male.

Genitalia. S VIII with 14–16 setae arising from the large pale pits on each side. Gonocoxapodeme straight, fused medially. Notum distinctly longer than the rami. Dorsomesal lobe prominent, expanded posterior medially; ventrolateral lobe absent or reduced into a narrow strip. Apodeme lobe lamellar, with slightly expanded apex. Labium apparently bare. Postgenital plate triangular. T IX with setae biserial, the upper row with 2 setae, and the lower with 6–8 setae.
