Bibio rohli Statz, 1943 View in CoL (figs. 78, 197–199)
Bibio rohli Statz, 1943: 46–47 View in CoL .
Localities: Rott
Material examined: Holotype, female LACMIP 2533.237 / LACMIP Type 3367 (fig. 78).
Description:
Female (N=1, figs. 78, 197–199):
Head (fig. 199): Length 1.3 mm, width 1.2 mm. Black, rather short and wide, palpus slender. Antenna not well preserved.
Thorax (fig. 199): Length 2.9 mm. Black, haltere dark brown.
Legs: Fore femur pale yellowish. Fore tibia pale yellowish with brownish-black base and tip. Spur about half as long as spine. Fore tarsus very slender. Mid- and hind femora pale yellowish with narrowly dark tips.
Wing (fig. 198): Length 10.3 mm, width 3.8 mm, length/width = 2.7. Brown fumose, anterior area darkened except for area between Sc and R 1. Pterostigma brownish-black, moderately distinctive, veins strong, light brownish. Costa extends to apex of R 4+5. Subcosta straight , rather distinctive. Humeral vein not apparent. Basal Rs a little over twice as long as R-M. M with relatively long stem and short fork, crossvein dM-Cu joins M 2 immediately apicad to furcation. CuA 1 very strong, with a bend in the middle, both CuA-veins with a small kink just before apex. CuP joins CuA 2 about three fourths out, forming a pointed, closed cubital cell. Vein measurements are given in Table 5 .
Abdomen: Length 8.5 mm, width 3.7 mm, dark brown, spindle-shaped, only partly preserved.
Male unknown.
Discussion:
It is possible that the unusual shape of the cubital veins of the type specimen is teratological. However, it is quite symmetrical with similar shape in the right and left wings, whereas teratologies are usually asymmetrical.
