Quollastria capricornae Ahyong, 2001

Oratosquilla imperialis . — Moosa & Cleva, 1984: 79. — Moosa, 1986: 409 –410; 2000: 411, 448 (part, Philippine records). [Not O. imperialis ( Manning, 1965) ].

Quollastria capricornae Ahyong, 2001: 302 –304, fig. 146 [type locality: E of Mooloolaba, Queensland, Australia, 26°52.74’S, 153°35.34’E].

Material examined. ZRC, 1 female (TL 89 mm), Balicasag Island, P. Ng et al. from local fishermen, 2002; ZRC 2003.0304, 1 female (TL 90 mm), Balicasag Island, P. Ng et al. from local fishermen, Jan–Jul 2003; ZRC 2004.0617, 2 females (TL 79–81 mm), Balicasag Island, P. Ng et al. from local fishermen, 2 Mar 2004

Remarks. Quollastria capricornae was recently described from Australia (Ahyong 2001). Specimens from the Philippines and Indonesia identified as Q. imperialis ( Manning, 1965) by Moosa & Cleva (1984) and Moosa (1986) respectively were reexamined at the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle, Paris; all are referable to Q. capricornae . Thus, Q. imperialis has a narrower known range than previously thought, being restricted to the northwestern Pacific Ocean in the vicinity of Japan and Taiwan. Apparently, Q. imperialis is replaced by Q. capricornae in waters between the Philippines and Australia. The spination of the abdominal carinae of the present Philippine specimens of Q. capricornae (submedian 5–6, intermediate 3–6, lateral 1–6, marginal 1–5) is within that reported by Ahyong (2001).

Distribution. Australia, New Caledonia, and now from Indonesia and the Philippines; 71– 212 m.
