Euphthiracarus subcedrus View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 2 View FIGURE 2 . D–F)

Description

Measurements of holotype: prodorsum: length 268, width 177, height 126, sensillus 121, setae: in 109, le and ro 81.0, ex 17.7; notogaster: length 480, width 293, height 303, setae: c 1, h 1 and ps 1 63.2; genitoaggenital plate 159 x 55.7; anoadanal plate 227 x 50.6.

Colour light yellow. Surface of body without discernible punctuation, foveoles widespread on the notogaster.

Prodorsum with two pairs of lateral carinae, the upper markedly stronger than the lower. Sensilli long, rigid, narrowly lanceolate covered sparsely with small spines. Setae fine, interlamellar and lamellar erect, covered with small spines, rostral setae rather procumbent, rough, exobothridial setae minute; in> ro = le> ex. Distance between lamellar and rostral setae shorter than between interlamellar and lamellar setae. Mutual distance between lamellar setae slightly shorter than mutual distance between rostral setae and considerably shorter than that between interlamellar setae.

Notogaster with short (c 1 <½ c 1 d 1) stout setae covered with small spines in distal half. Setae of row c remote from anterior border, setae c 1 more so than other setae. Opening of opisthosomal gland and arrangement of lyrifissures and vestigial setae typical of genus.

Ventral region. Genitoaggenital plates each with nine setae. Two pairs of aggenital setae, setae ag 1 considerably longer than setae ag 2. Anal setae an 1 and an 2 simple, short, slightly shorter than other setae of anoadanal plates.

Chaetome of legs (without tarsi): I: 135(2)5(1), II: 143(1)5(1), III: 222(1)2(1), IV: 211(1)2(1). Tarsi heterotridactylous.

Types

Holotype: Russia, the SikhoteAlin’ reserve , UstMantuj , the Tunsha river valley, litter in deciduous forest with cedars, 8 VIII 1972, leg. N.S. Sagdeeva; one paratype: Russia, Kemerovska district, collection of S. Vugova.

Etymology The name subcedrus refers to the habitat of the type specimens.

Comparison

The new species is distinguishable by the absence of discernible punctation on body surface, the presence of double lateral carinae of prodorsum, unequal aggential setae and simple, short anal setae an 1 and an 2.

Euphthiracarus suputincus sp. nov.

( Figs 2 View FIGURE 2 . G–I)

Description

Measurements of holotype: prodorsum: length 328, width 227, height 136, sensillus 121, setae: in 114, le 75.9, ro 68.3; notogaster: length 626, width 353, height 475, setae: c 1 104, h 1 98.7, ps 1 101; genitoaggenital region 232 x 75.7, anoadanal region 283 x 65.6.

Colour light brown. Surface of prodorsum punctate, the foveoles are widespread; surface of notogaster covered with rounded concavities.

Prodorsum with one pair of irregular lateral carinae. Sensilli long with small swollen head covered with small spines. Interlamellar and lamellar setae erect covered with small spines. Rostral setae procumbent, rough. Exobothridial setae vestigial. Distance between interlamellar and lamellar setae greater than between lamellar and rostral setae. Distance between lamellar and rostral setae shorter than between interlamellar and lamellar setae. Mutual distance between rostral setae slightly shorter than that between lamellar and considerably shorter than that between interlamellar setae. Mutual distance between lamellar setae slightly greater than between rostral setae.

Notogaster with medium length of setae (c 1 <c 1 d 1), rigid, covered with small spines in distal half, setae c 13 remote from anterior margin, seta c 1 and c 2 more than setae c 3. Opening of opisthosomal gland and arrangement of lyrifissures and vestigial setae typical of genus.

Ventral region. Setae h of mentum longer than distance between them. Nine pairs of genital setae with formula: 6:3, two pairs of short, thick, clublike, smooth aggenital setae, similar in length. Anal setae an 1 and an 2 attenuate, smooth and considerably longer than other rough setae of anoadanal region.

Chaetome of legs (without tarsi): I: 134(2)5(1), II: 133(1)5(1), III: 222(1)2(1), IV: 211(1)2(1). Tarsi heterotridactylous.

Types

Holotype and six paratypes: Russia, Far East, the Suputinsky reserve , under fir, 27 VII 1966, leg. A.D. Petrova; three paratypes: Russia, Far East, Suputinsky reserve , litter from ash forest, 1964, leg. E.P. Makarceva; two paratypes: Russia, Far East, Suputinsky reserve , Suputinka river valley, moss on barks and branches, 27 VII 1966, leg. A.D. Petrova; one paratype: Russia, Far East, the Suputinsky reserve, N side of mixed, deciduous forest with cedars, under cedar, leg. A.D. Petrova.

Etymology The specific epithet suputincus refers to the Suputinca river.

Comparison

The new species is distinguishable from congeners by the presence of short, clublike aggenital setae. The similar species E. (E.) pakistanensis Hammer, 1977 has double lateral carinae and aggenital setae ag 2 considerably longer than setae ag 1.
