Diagnosis. TL 12.0– 14.4 mm; TL-H = 11.3–13.7 mm; MW 5.7–6.7 mm; pronotum testaceous with a transversal black band posteriorly, in many specimens extending to or almost to anterior margin; elytron with a sublateral marginal stripe usually broad ( Fig. 3C View FIGURE 3 ), sometimes with inward extensions; often with highly developed sub-marginal elytral stripes; protarsomere I without a series of spines across the dorsal surface; metatibia generally with of less than ten bifid setae, curved ventrad basally on posterior surface; median lobe of aedeagus apically truncate in lateral view (see Trémouilles 1996).
Differential diagnosis. Hydaticus rimosus is very similar to H. bimarginatus , but differs from it by the characters given in the identification key, the slightly different coloration of pronotum and elytra. The two species have similar genitalia with narrow parameres, but the median lobe of H. rimosus is more truncate apically, while that of H. bimarginatus is more angulate (see Larson et al. 2000: Figs. 185 k, n).
Distribution. Hydaticus rimosus is found in the Antilles, Mexico, Honduras, and Costa Rica (see Roughley & Pengelly 1981, Miller et al. 2009).
Ecology. Hydaticus rimosus has been collected in temporary habitats with turbid waters, abundant aquatic vegetation and dense accumulation of organic matter. Some specimens were also collected with a light trap.
