Diagnosis: Hispanomys species of medium size, with high values of the (mean LM1)/(mean LM3) and (mean Lm1)/(mean Lm3) ratios; upper molars lacking cingula on the labial valleys as well as mesoloph, four- or five-rooted M1; M1, and M2 with almost complete ectolophs, M3 relatively small; lower molars lacking cingula on the lingual valleys, either absent or short mesolophids, and long, short or absent anterolophid.

Differential diagnosis: Differing from Hispanomys castelnovi , H. decedens , H. bijugatus , H. aguirrei , H. daamsi , H. dispectus , H. lavocati , H. aragonensis , and H. baixasi in having four- or five-rooted M1; differing from H. castelnovi , H. decedens , H. bijugatus , H. aguirrei , H. daamsi , H. dispectus , H. lavocati , H. aragonensis , and H. baixasi in having well-developed ectolophs on the M1 and M2; differing from H. decedens , H. dispectus , H. thaleri , and H. aragonensis in lacking enamel-coated valley on the M1–M2; differing from H. decedens , H. aguirrei , H. daamsi , H. dispectus , H. lavocati , and H. nombrevillae in lacking labial cingula on the M1–M2; differing from H. decedens , H. aguirrei , H. dispectus , H. lavocati , H. thaleri , and H. aragonensis in lacking any trace of mesoloph on the upper molars; differing from H. castelnovi , H. decedens , H. bijugatus , H. aguirrei , H. daamsi , H. dispectus , H. lavocati , H. thaleri , H. aragonensis , H. peralensis , and H. baixasi in having larger LM3/LM1 ratio; differing from H. castelnovi , H. decedens , H. bijugatus , H. aguirrei , H. daamsi , H. dispectus , H. lavocati , H. nombrevillae , H. thaleri , H. aragonensis , H. mediterraneus , and H. baixasi in lacking labial anterolophid in about half the m1; differing from H. decedens , H. bijugatus , H. aguirrei , H. lavocati , H. nombrevillae , H. mediterraneus , and H. baixasi in lacking double metalophulid on the m1; differing from H. freudenthali and H. adroveri in having labial anterolophid in about half the m1 and very short or absent mesolophids in more than half the specimens; differing from H. aragonensis , H. thaleri , H. nombrevillae , and H. aguirrei in having the m2 three-rooted; differing from H. castelnovi , H. decedens , H. bijugatus , H. aguirrei , H. daamsi , H. dispectus , H. lavocati , H. thaleri , H. aragonensis , and H. baixasi in having larger Lm3/Lm1 ratio.
