Hyperaspis marginaloides Canepari

( Fig. 8a, b View FIGURE 8 )

Hyperaspis marginaloides Canepari, 1997: 18 (holotype female, MHNG).– Poorani 2002: 347.

The dorsal habitus of the holotype of H. marginaloides at MHNG ( Fig. 8a View FIGURE 8 ) (obtained through the courtesy of Dr. Giulio Cuccodoro, Muséum d'histoire Naturelle, Geneva) is illustrated here. Canepari (1997) described this species from Nepal based on a single female. It is a distinctive, black species with a broad oval form and characteristic yellowish maculae on the elytra and is not likely to be confused with the other two Indian species .

Distribution. Nepal.

Note. Chakrabarti et al. (2012) recorded H. marginaloides from Manipur and Sikkim states in northeast India as a predator of Aphis fabae (on Cestrum nocturnum ), A. gossypii (on Colocasia esculenta ), and A. spiraecola (on Ageratum conyzoides ). But it appears to be an unverified record because it is likely to be a misidentification of Platynaspis variegata Crotch, 1874 , a similar looking, more commonly distributed species in that region.
